Nighttime Photography and Atmospheric Light

Many couples commence their wedding event with a formal ceremony during the beautiful day light hours, providing the newly weds with an abundance of natural vistas, vibrant colours and subtle framing. As the sun sets in the sky (a stunning opportunity for picturesque backdrops and romantic portraits) this natural phenomena should by no means symbolise the end of your wedding day celebrations! The darkening and star filled sky provides the perfect setting for festive reception celebrations, that will more often than extend long into the night! There are a fantastic selection of reception venues and locations around Melbourne which provide sophisticated and unique settings for your nighttime revelry.

As well as the dazzling and atmospheric interiors which comprise many reception venues; think disco balls, full length windows with stunning views of the night sky, and the romance of candlelight. There is often opportunity for the bride and groom to take a quiet stroll around the surrounding grounds; the perfect chance to capture intimate portraits underneath the moonlight. Imagine beautifully back lit veils, with the moon and lights from the reception centre casting gentle highlights on your faces. Subtly balancing and blending the levels of off camera lighting with the existing ambient lights brings us fresh challenges but wonderful opportunities for drama and romance. Your signature Serendipity veil shot will soar to breathtaking proportians against a darkening sky and the jewel-like lights of the city at night.

One of Serendipity’s favourite locations for stunning night photography is the waterfront reception venue Leonda by the Yarra. This picturesquely situated venue offers abundant backdrops both inside and out. As the sun sets it casts a subtle shimmering glow over the river; a stunning complement to your special day. Romantic portraits of the newly weds are perfectly set against the majestic staircase framed by wrought iron railings, and a backdrop of festive celebrations and atmospheric fairy-lights. Many couples take the wonderful opportunity of arriving and leaving their reception onboard a boat! The walk from the courtyard to the Yarra is fantastic for shoots and staff can easily organize a boat ride up the river. Serendipity Photography are happy to recommend this, especially at night when the lights on the water produce some fantastic wedding photography. Imagine the finishing touch to your day being the romance of departing on a floating vessel, as your guests see you off on your own private boat ramp.

There are many advantages to capturing wedding photos during the atmospheric nighttime. As well as the highly glamourous and exciting ambience that comes with night photography, this option seamlessly extends the reach and length of location times. Ensuring that later weddings are just as convenient and attractive as their day time counterparts. Many couples chose to celebrate their weddings outside the city, where beach side tones and regional aesthetics are the order of the day, the glamourous colours and dazzling lights the night brings are a perfect way to achieve a more urban look, bringing you a wedding day album full of stunning variations.

Would be great if you could include captions under the photos advising of the location. The first two images are stunning!

We really enjoyed our night photography .. it was very worthwhile. We had a late ceremony and were pleased that Serendipity were flexible about adding on some time after the reception so we could indulge in lovely shots together without time pressure. Parliament House is a great place for night shots, and then some with the fabulous blue glass and glam lifts on the way to our room at the Park Hyatt. Perfect finish to a fantastic day!
