Serendipity Photography at Sketch and Peninsula for Julie and Richard!

Its hard to narrow down where to start to talk about Sketch and Peninsula!  Atlantic Group [V] has the best collection of striking modern reception venues currently operating in Melbourne, with terrific ambience, an enviable waterfront locations and supremely high quality food and presentation. At Serendipity Photography we love these views, the light, and LOVE the fitouts. Peninsula’s interior décor is immaculately styled for for a couple wishing for a modern thrust for their wedding reception. The food has the class of a high end restaurant which is uncommon for such a reception venue, which earned them Restaurant and Catering Association– ‘Wedding Venue Caterer of the Year’ — 2011, ‘Function Venue Cater of the Year’ — 2011 and ‘Overall Caterer of the Year’ — 2011!

Julie and Richard chose Sketch for their ceremony and Peninsula for their reception because of the waterfront location in the Docklands. Having both grown up on the coast on opposite sides of Australia, and now making Melbourne their home city, it was an obvious choice. Sketch also has a stunning view of the Bolte Bridge, and that, combined with a sunset ceremony was a clincher. “Sketch had the perfect combination of elements that we wanted as the backdrop for our ceremony”, says Julie Williams. “We loved the sleek lines and the long chandelier at Peninsula. — the capacity and flexibility of the space really suited our wedding.”  Peninsula’s 66 metre chandelier is the longest in the Southern Hemisphere. Julie and Richard really responded to the dramatic modern interior, something to show off for their guests and create a grand sense of occasion.

One of the strongest of Julie and Richard’s wedding is the stunning lighting by Austage, part of the Atlantic stable. At Serendipity we are totally enthusiastic about great lighting, and really appreciate the vision of clients who are prepared to push the boundaries. “Austage were able to bring our wedding fantasies to fruition, they understood our concept of  strong colour washes, and integrated other presentation elements to create the perfect atmosphere for our event” comments Richard, “we couldn’t have been more satisfied”.

Julie loved the beautiful décor and table decorations from Centerpiece By Design. “We chose “Crystal Magnolia” because of the whimsical nature of the pieces. Serendipity were able to catch the right angle to show the way the decorations picked up similar shapes in the chandelier and we just love the result.” Julie and Richard appreciate the way the photography was able to capture everything important about their day from so many perspectives, and with depth and acuity. “All of our guests commented on the the skills and hard work on the night, and we really love the outcome” says Julie.

What a cool job” — At Serendipity we absolutely appreciated Julie and Richard’s passion for design and attention to detail. The table settings were a delight, and using off camera flash techniques brought out the sparkles in the crystals and really enhanced the dramatic mood. Backlight really works well in Peninsula’s tall contemporary space, highlighting the strong vertical thrust of the chandelier, and with Julie and Richard’s function, helping to delineate action within the coloured haze. In reception spaces such as Sketch and Peninsula, Serendipity uses quite a number of flashes set around the room that can be remotely controlled for lighting precision. Ambient lighting Austage provided continuing changes of atmosphere and really enhanced the dramatic mood of the function. It is a joy to be able to mix flash with such strong colours — Sally and Julian have been studying and working with photographic lighting for nearly thirty years, and really believe in the virtue and value of good quality theatrical lighting as perhaps the most powerful form of self expression available for your function, to totally mesmerise your guests.

Serendipity on Atlantic Group V — Peninsula and Sketch

Exquisite food, presented at a standard beyond that of nearly every venue in Melbourne. Amazing presentation, which fits a venue aimed at the top end. Enviable standard of food. Service beyond five star. Would suit a confident customer who’s flexible to create an individually themed wedding reception. Marvelously located in the heart of Melbourne’s waterfront restaurant precinct, which for many city people, is close to anything that matters.

Sketch is Atlantic Group’s signature restaurant and reception centre, catering for those who appreciated exquisite cuisine and the finest level of service. As with all AG venues, Sketch has a modern flexible entertainment and function space with a beautiful contemporary fitout. At Serendipity photography we really appreciate the strength of design and interesting detailing. The detail throughout is striking and the bridal rooms continue this unique trend. We appreciate this at Serendipity, and the bridal rooms will be something that you’ll really want to write home about! With striking striped velour wallpaper, and the shiniest of couches, and yet more chandeliers, the bridal room at Sketch is breathtaking and absolutely glamourous for more photography, a real plus in the winter, and icing on the cake for the rest of the year.

One of the things that is most lovable from Serendipity’s point of view, is the abundance of glorious natural light. Sketch offers wedding couples sunsets that are simply to die for, the sun streams over wavetops leaving trails of gold and fushia rippling over the water. Depending on the season, you can enjoy the sun’s liquid progression of hue ether outside or safely behind large picture windows in June, July and August. Afterall, photography is light writing, and, at Sketch the sun does more than merely gesticulate, it carves great slathes of brilliance, that write ‘glory at full volume’ right across your reception!

I love how much the lighting at Julie and Richard’s wedding brought their venue alive: You can tell that everyone had a wonderful time dancing on that spectacular dance-floor! And those white sashes are really beautiful.

Serendipity Photography were our first choice and its clear to see why! We were thrilled with all our images from our wedding, it really brought more to the sense of our occasion by using the already present elements via lighting and colour.

We had the best of the best to assist us in bringing our wedding fantasy to life and Serendipity were high amongst the ranks!

Thank you very much for capturing every aspect of our day and evoking it perfectly for us to reflect back on over the coming years. We will recommend you to our friends for any of their upcoming events :)
